In a nutshell:

The construction of the remarkable Great Wall started 2,000 years ago during the Qin Dynasty. The original walls were made of rammed earth and built to keep out marauding nomads from the north. Gradually the Wall has deteriorated and some sections have turned to dust, but over the subsequent dynasties, several strategic sections have been rebuilt and reinforced. See how the Great Wall was in its former glory and tread the elevated highway as it is today. Your local guide leads the way at a leisurely pace on what many travellers have considered the ultimate China experience.

Schedule:

Day 1 Beijing
Track down a bargain at the wonderful Silk Markets, see the hutongs or back lanes of Beijing by rickshaw, walk across Tiananmen Square or find a great restaurant for Peking Duck. Overnight at Dongjiaominxiang Hotel.

Day2-3 The Great Wall
No trip to China is complete without a walk on the Great Wall. This Great Wall adventure goes one step further. Trek with a guide through remote areas and along the steep, narrow paths of this formidable defense. Some parts of the wall are overgrown with vegetation and in others there are high ridges with both ruined and restored watchtowers. Trek on from Gu Bei Kou to Jin Shan Ling, and from Jin Shan Ling to Si Ma Tai where the sweeping views of the surrounding countryside are simply breathtaking in two days. Overnight at Simatai The Great Wall Guest House.

Day 4-5 The Great Wall/Beijing
Conquer the last part of the world's longest fortification-Mu Tian Yu section and enjoy a picnic lunch on the wall before heading back to Beijing through the rural Chinese countryside. You are free to depart anytime on Day 5.
