Private Tour to Mogao Caves in Dunhuang

Overview

In ancient times, Dunhuang was the trade center between China and its western neighbors. At that time, it was the most westerly frontier military garrison in China. With the flourishing of trade along the Silk Road, it was prompted to become the most open area in international trade in ancient Chinese history. It provided the only access westward for the Chinese Empire and eastward for western nationalities. Today, as a reminder of this historical area, we are left with the Mogao Caves, Yangguan Pass, Yumenguan Pass and many wonderful Chinese poems depicting the time.

Day 1 Arrival Dunhuang

Upon arriving at Dunhuang Airport, you will be met by your local guide and transferred to a 4-star hotel in Dunhuang. That afternoon, enjoy the stunning views at Crescent Spring hidden in the Singing Sand Dunes located 6 km outside the city center. Later, visit the local night markets and experience local cuisine and fruits while shopping for paintings, jade and more. Camel ride is available with additional charge (minimum 4 people required). Return to the hotel for your overnight stay.
Day 2 Dunhuang [B]

After breakfast at the hotel, your driver will take you to visit the Mogao Caves. Upon arrival you will watch two documentaries about the Silk Road and Mogao Caves before proceeding to the caves. Visit the untouched fresco paintings and statues that were constructed during the reign of multiple dynasties, still colorful treasures of art. This tour will take approximately 4 hours, after which you will be transferred to Dunhuang Airport. Your tour concludes here.
