  • Why do we run active travels?

China is a huge country with 5000 years of history, diverse nationalities and cultures. There are many ways to see our country. Many westerners, as we know them, tend to prefer adventure travel, exploring the natural beauty of the land, getting in touch with our friendly people and gaining first hand experience of our culture. For more than 20 years, we have organized and conducted bicycle, hiking and trekking tours, as well as special interest travel to cater to these interests. All of these have consistently generated compliments and praise from our clients.

We are convinced you can never get a full picture of China on a bus; you have to experience it by cycling or hiking, by having a personal touch with the land and the people. So we invite you to experience some of this excitement and pleasure by seeing China with us. It is our hope that we might have the pleasure of your company soon.

  • Our team

Our team is composed of 6 Executive Staff members and over 20 Tour Leaders. Through our efforts in the past two decades, we have established a team of well-trained and well-experienced bilingual Tour Leaders speaking fluent English. Our leaders are selected from licensed Tour Guides with excellent records from all over China. They are sent on our trips only after special training by ourselves and veteran western Tour Leaders in leadership, cross-cultural communication, English language training and other aspects of tour management that is required to ensure you have well qualified Tour Leaders. More important is that they are trained and have passed tests in First Aid by China Red Cross. A refresher course is also held every other year for our Leaders. In addition we pay similar attention to our team of drivers related to service and safety.

We believe the best service comes from the best team work.

  • Best safety record

We always believe prevention is better than the cure. Safety has always been our first priority. We really take this seriously. Our bike routes are mostly in the countryside of China and we always stay away from busy traffic. Our bike routes are researched in great details numerous times and compared to ensure safety and excitement and only the best is chosen.

Our bikes are in excellent condition and after each trip they are cleaned, maintained and inspected by professional mechanics.

Our leaders will give warning before any possible danger, such as long downhill grades. In addition a group meeting is held on the first day of the trip to acquaint our bikers with China traffic rules, road signs, terrain, bike skills etc.

Each of our leaders has the contact and location information of every local hospital along our travel routes and know about the facilities.

We also have a support team of bus drivers and lorry drivers. We have chosen them as our support team, because they are safe and gentle and knowledgeable of what to do and where we are going.

Due to the various safety precautions we take, we maintain the best safety record.

  • Our gears

We have a total of 200 bicycles stored in various locations throughout China; most of them are 27 speed or 24 speed mountain bikes. We also have single speed Chinese bikes for bike riding in Tian An Men Square and the alleyways of Beijing.

We have 30 twin tents and 40 sleeping bags for overnight camping.

More on our bikes: The 27 speed bikes and some of the others have front suspension. All bikes have bull bars, water bottle cages, back racks, and toe clips if required.

    Sizes include: 14"(XS), 16"(S), 18"(M), 20"(L) and 22"(XL), the bikes will fit heights of between 140cm - 200cm

Bike helmets - 40 (It is mandatory that all Western bike riders including our guide must wear a bike helmet!)

We make sure that all our bikes are in perfect condition when we hand them over to our clients. Bike assignment is made prior to the trip start according to pax height and personal requests (such as with a toe clip or flat), with a name tag on each bike. Pax are welcome to bring their own pedals, seat or seat covers, helmet, etc. We will help them install their personal equipment on our bikes. As Diamondback is an American brand the measurement is standardized.

  • Responsible travel

Responsible travel is travel that is environmentally, culturally and socially responsible. How can we achieve that? With your participation we aim to travel in a way that conserves the areas we visit and brings positive benefits to local communities:

--Bring the least negative impact on the local community.M Many places in China are rapidly changing because of the development of the tourist industry. We recognize that they need to be protected in order to keep them original and pristine.

-- Respect local people and their culture. Because of vast differences between Western cultures and China one of the greatest challenges to travel is respect for local cultures and customs. We achieve this by ensuring our tour leaders are familiar with the customs not only of China but of the guests they accompany and explain it properly to our visiting guests.

-- Our tour leaders perform an important role in providing responsible travel: They themselves are responsible travelers; they will often remind you of how to protect the environment; act as a bridge between two cultures, together you will get close to local people, experiencing their custom, their life, and their points of view. They constantly try to introduce you and your culture to the local people to build better understanding and lifelong friendships.
